Counselling Skills Project
There are 250,000 people in Britain living with aphasia, an ‘invisible’ disability – usually caused by stroke – that affects communication in many ways. Some people cannot speak at all, or use only a few words. Some have trouble using the telephone or understanding conversation, the radio or television. Others can no longer read, write or use numbers.
Connect wants to develop a user guide and an accompanying training module which offers techniques, tools and case studies to help healthcare professionals and counsellors give people with aphasia the practical and emotional support they need to rebuild their lives.
