Helping Third Sector Organisations and Volunteers
We help volunteers and the third sector to connect by sourcing volunteers for charities to maintain or increase their services, and offer a flexible, accessible and easy way to volunteer for Londoners, both corporates and individuals. By making volunteering easy, we increase community engagement.
Charity information: Hands On London
Numerous charities across London are suffering from lack of funds and volunteer support. They are overstretched, understaffed and under resourced. On the flip side, many individuals wish to 'give back' by volunteering but do not have the access or information to enable them to do so. Studies show that often people do not volunteer because of lack of information or time. Charities need help with sourcing and managing volunteers, and opportunities need to be more accessible to suit busy Londoners.
We work to provide volunteers and organisational support for over 85 charity partners for whom this extra capacity is vital. We endeavour to make volunteering flexible and easy for individuals by organising projects all over London. We help people from all walks of life. Our projects range from festive community fun days, to cooking meals for families who have children with severe illnesses, cleaning up the environment,to supporting women who have suffered from sex trafficking and domestic abuse
Make volunteering in London flexible, accessible and convenient so as to increase volunteering
Activities» We identify flexible volunteering opportunities with charities, centralise information on our website and operate an easy online calendar to sign up.
Success will be measured by counting monthly the number of new volunteers registering on our website and volunteers who sign up to each activity.
Strengthen the third sector by supporting and even increasing organisations’ services and programmes
Activities» We source volunteers for regular and one-off activities, work on existing projects, and create and run bespoke projects eg IT, CV & budget workshops.
Success will be measured by counting the number of charity partners and activities that we are able to support, monitor the type of activity, and feedback from our charity partners.
Encourage corporate social responsibility and philanthropy
Activities» We organise corporate volunteering days, help staff use volunteering hours and help companies build strategic partnerships with charities
Success will be monitored by counting monthly the number of corporate volunteering requests we receive, new and repeat clients and number of corporate projects we organise.
Enhance community cohesion
Activities» Our volunteering projects boost individual and corporate engagement in the community, improve social awareness and build stronger communities
Success is measured by counting the number of volunteers, corporate projects, carrying out feedback surveys of volunteers and charities and obtaining informal feedback.
In the long term HOL’s activities will improve community cohesion and Londoners’ engagement with deprived parts of society, promote volunteering in every day life, increase the use of volunteer skills in the third sector and increase corporate philanthropy.
Success will be demonstrated through our monthly metrics records e.g. Increase of new volunteers and regular/repeat volunteers, increased charity partners we support, and higher numbers of corporate CSR projects we organise.
Lack of funding - Our financial situation is monitored regularly to make sure that we do not go over our budget.
Volunteers unable to turn up to an activity due to illness or emergency- In this case we try to send a member of Hands On London staff or a replacement volunteer to take the place of the absent volunteer.
Activity cancellations - We keep all communication lines with our charity partners and ensure both parties are well informed to avoid any misunderstandings and keep consistency.
Donors for this project will receive a monthly email updating and detailing them on the progress, successes of the project(s) and any possible alterations that may or will have to be made. They will also be updated on new projects and other upcoming projects via our monthly newsletter.

Countless people will benefit from our project; beneficiaries and service users include homeless people, the unemployed, women who have suffered from domestic violence, immigrants, asylum seekers, children, the disabled, those from other disadvantaged backgrounds, the environment and elderly. Individuals who take up volunteering and have access to a brilliant range of accessible and convenient ways to help people will also benefit. Companies able to volunteer thanks to our work also benefit.
Our organisation has been successfully running for almost two years which demonstrates the strength of our charity in such a difficult economic climate. Not only are the number of volunteers (individuals and corporates) and charity partners that we work with increasing, but we often receive very positive feedback from our volunteers and partner organisations on the outcomes and support of the activities we help to provide at their centres.
