Having a place like home
This project supports young people from homelessness and unemployment towards a better future. Funds are needed to enable volunteers to support young people at the project with programmes and activities.
This is ongoing work the budget is for one year
Charity information: Coventry & Warwickshire YMCA
To create a place where young people can be supported through the development of relationships and the development of trust so that they have a place like home to begin rebuilding their lives
At the heart of many young people's situations is that they have never had constructive enduring relationships with adults - somewhere that is safe - somewhere to belong. Simply being put into training only builds on sand - when a challenge arises in the training there is nothing to fall back on. 'Having a place like home' creates the rock on which to build
To build trust, relationships and safety as a building block for future development
Activities» Development of cooking skills through an in house 'Come Dine with me'
» Growth of developmental relationships through weekly groupwork that focuses on the individuals and their personal development
What success will look like
Success will be... when the group living together are able to move to more indepenedent accommodation but stay a part of the support network as peer mentors to the next residents
A growing group of young people will develop who are making a positive contribution to their communities
The demonstartion of success will be shown through those who complete our Young Leader Training Progamme and who go on to act as Peer Mentors whilst maintaining their tenancies in move on accommodation
The key risk to the project is changes in volunteers and staff which disrupts the development of the young people. We have several long term staff and volunteers who will be allocated to this project
Case studies and data from the project will be posted on our website and sent electronically to donors
