Project information

Rabbit Welfare & Re-homing.

At Camp Nibble we aim to improve the welfare of rabbits and assist members of the community by providing a very high standard of care to unwanted, abandoned and neglected rabbits. Also by re-homing rescue rabbits responsibly, and educating the public on the proper care of rabbits.

  • Need

Rabbits have recently been identified as the most cruelly treated and neglected pet in the UK. A majority of pet rabbits are living in conditions where their welfare is being severely compromised. As a result rescue centres are full of rabbits who have suffered through the ignorance of their owners and then through no fault of their own have become unwanted.

There are also many members of the community desperately requiring assistance to re-home their rabbits due to changes in circumstances

We will maintain accommodation to receive unwanted, abused and abandoned rabbits and care for them to a very high standard. These rescued rabbits will then be re-homed responsibly using strict re-homing criteria after neutering, vaccination and rehabilitation.

We will also educate the public on the proper care of rabbits via holding rabbit awareness events, via our website/social media networks, and by providing an advisory service to potential/existing rabbit owners.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

We aim to rehabilitate and responsibly re-home neglected and abandoned pet rabbits.

» Maintain high quality facilities to receive rescued rabbits.
» Prepare rabbits to be responsibly re-homed by neutering and vaccinating and providing the best possible veterinary care available.
» Only re-home rabbits to the best possible homes by adopting strict re-homing criteria.

    What success will look like

Success will be neutering, vaccinating and providing abandoned and neglected rabbits with the responsible, loving homes that they deserve.

    Aim 2

To re-educate the public on the proper care of rabbits and their complex needs.

» By handing out literature and educating members of the public directly at rabbit awareness events.
» By educating the public on matters pertaining to rabbit welfare via our website and social media channels.
» By providing an advisory service whereby existing and potential rabbit owners can contact us for advice regarding rabbit welfare.
» By initiating our own rabbit welfare campaigns and spreading the campaigning messages of the Rabbit Welfare Association.

    What success will look like

Success will be existing and potential rabbit owners understanding the commitment required to provide pet rabbits with a happy, healthy life.

  • Impact

The project will considerably change the lives of many hundreds of abandoned and neglected pet rabbits. This will be demonstrated by the number of rabbits responsibly re-homed by Camp Nibble.

It will also complement the campaigns of other welfare organisations and contribute to a more general re-education of the public regarding the proper care of rabbits. This will be demonstrated by an increase in the understanding of what is required in order for rabbits to live a happy, healthy life.

There is a risk of rising veterinary costs. We have dealt with this risk by ensuring that we maintain excellent relationships and communication with our trusted veterinary practices. This allows us to negotiate competitive discounts.

An annual report will be emailed to donors.

  • Background

Camp Nibble rescues rabbits throughout Yorkshire and occasionally other areas of the UK.

The main beneficiary will be the rabbits that we help. We re-home approximately 150 rabbits annually and hope to help significantly more via educating the existing and potential owners.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Rabbits have been identified as the most neglected animal currently in the UK. However, there are very few rabbit rescue charities operating in the Yorkshire area. Our rabbit care experience, passion for animal welfare and our relationships with excellent veterinary practices make us ideally placed to carry out this project.
