Vulnerable families are at risk of being seperated without the right intervention and support. Britain has the highest levels of teenage pregnancy in Europe and young mums needs role models and intensive support in learning how to parent to ensure that their child's development is not hindered.
Our projects reduces the numbers of children at risk. Families:
-are supported to recognise domestic abuse and to make healthy decisions for their life
-receive support in positive parenting leading them to be more confident, capable parents
-receive weekly 1:1 support to set goals and achieve them, in areas including Education, Training and Employment; Health and Wellbeing; Relationships and Making a Positive Contribution to the community
Replication of Elizabeth House project model in local authority areas with greatest need.
Activities» Employ a business development officer to take forward research into areas of greatest need.
» use funds to hold key meetings with partners who will be able to work with Aquila Way to establish the replica projects eg property investors
What success will look like
Success will be the first Elizabeth House replica project opening in a new local authority by Spring 2014.
Long terms changes will be a reducation in the number of children going into care in the local authority area where our project is based; a reduction in the number of further teenage pregnancies among the women we house; an increase in the health, well being and development of the children we house. Success will be demonstrated by working with professionals in social services and healthcare to monitor the progress of each family.
The greatest risk to the project is the access to funding as Supporting People funding can no longer be relied upon for revenue funding. To mitigate this risk we would need to develop a Housing Benefit model to present to local authorities for the housing related costs.
We will report to donors every 6 months with an update on the progress of the development work for this project.

Elizabeth House is located in Gateshead.
The current project supports 63 mums and children per annum. We would expect replica projects to support similar numbers of women and children per annum. A high proportion of the women we house have suffered from domestic violence and many of the children are classed as 'at risk' and are therefore under the supervision of social services.
Aquila Way has over 25 years experience housing vulnerable young women. We ahve developed expertise in child protection and the protection of vulnerable adults.
