  • Need

Mozart is arguably the most famous composer of all time, and opera his most important genre. Many of his early operas are rarely performed and little known despite their astonishing beauty and accomplishment. There are few recordings of Mozart’s early operas, and the quality of most that exist is poor, but in the current climate recordings of complete operas require substantial subsidy.

With our outstanding track record as Mozart specialists, we can create recordings of excellent quality and stylistic integrity, bringing this repertoire to a wide international audience. The recordings will incorporate the latest research on Mozart performance practice, and we will also present opportunities to hear the music live. We plan to create videos with each recording, providing further depth and insight, and these will also be made available for online viewing.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To create benchmark recordings of important, and often neglected, repertoire.

» Working in partnership with award-winning Linn Records to achieve state-of-the art production values.
» Engaging world-class artists, many of whom have worked extensively with the company since the start of their careers.
» Collaborating with leading Mozart publishers, Bärenreiter, to work from performance materials representing the highest scholarly standards.

Our previous recordings and performances have attracted outstanding reviews and we would hope to receive similar acclaim for this project.

    Aim 2

To take our audiences on a voyage of discovery and appreciation.

» Making this repertoire available through quality recordings and live performances, enhanced by video and extensive booklet / programme notes.
» Looking for ways to bring recordings of Mozart’s early works and accompanying educational materials to schools, at heavily subsidized prices.

We can evaluate our second aim through CD sales, attendance at performances, public feedback and broadcast and press exposure.

    Aim 3

To provide world-class young performers with high-level exposure and experience.

» Engaging the PR representatives of our company and Linn Records to ensure maximum exposure, in keeping with our recent acclaimed CDs.
» Internationally released recordings on a prestigious label provide invaluable exposure for our outstanding young artists.

By monitoring the successful development of these artists’ careers subsequent to release of the CDs and performances we can evaluate whether this aim has been successful.

  • Impact

Mozart’s reputation as arguably the greatest opera composer still rests on only a third of his operas. This series will offer audiences a fresh perspective and intensive overview of his complete canon, and provide a permanent record which can inspire current and future generations. The fact that Mozart wrote his first two operas at the age of eleven serves as an excellent hook to introduce similarly-aged children to opera.

The main risk is that we do not secure sufficient funding to bring the project to fruition, but we are confident that the idea is sufficiently strong to attract donors, and are developing a comprehensive fundraising campaign for each stage of the project. We have strict financial governance to ensure that we don’t make firm commitments that we cannot honour.

Funders of our projects receive regular progress reports, and we involve many donors closely with our work, for example, inviting them to attend rehearsals, meet artists, attend pre-performance talks, etc. We also organise private events around many of our projects.
