Making a Positive Difference
Our MAPD project is all about improving the personal qualities of children and young people from disadvanteged backgrounds and areas of deprivation. Using Forest School we set them up to achieve using small achievable tasks which boost self estemm confidence, team working and communication skills.

Many children and young people come form broken homes where they may not have positive role models, or have parents will low parenting skills, this often leads to problems in school with behaviour and attainment levels which are caused by low self esteem, poor communication skills etc. Our project address the personal qualities which help the participants re-engage with school life and improve their attainment levels and settle back into school life.
Through achievable tasks set in the outdoors we work on problem solving and communications skills as well as boosinf confidence and sle esteem. There are many young people who are kinaesthetic learners and often struggle to concentrate in the conventional classroom. Activities» Deliver 6 Forest School sessions to as many schools as possible. Sessions are regular and occur on the same day every week for 6 consecutive weeks
Success will be evident in the changes witnessed in evaluations of the participants and recorded in end of project evaluations completed by participants, schools and parents.
Children and young people will re-engage with school life and settle back into education. Schools will be able to demonstrate the success of the project by improved attendance and ,attainment levels of students involved.
This is a low risk project. There is a very low risk that schools may drop out last minute but sessions can always be rearranged. Whether can affect sessions but again cancelled sessions are always rearranged.
Funders will receive an End of Project report which will include statistics from evaluations a swell a case studies.

Plas Derw Trust are based in Northop In North Wales, we have two sites one at Norhtop the other at Caerwys and we work with school from across North East Wales inclusive of Flintshire Denbighshire and Wrexham and sometime we work with Cheshire Schools also.
Teh project will benefit children and young people form across our remit area. We focus on areas of deprivation such as community first wards and improve the prospects of participants, work on preventing truancy and exclusion.
Plas DErwTRust as Flintshire Forest school are the most succesful independent provider of Forest SChool in North wales. With 7 year of experiance our Leaders have a welath of knowledge which helps then deliver effective sessions adapting to meat the challenges of each group and individaul.

Pippa is the outdoor learnign coordinator and her role is to develop and manage all Plas Derw's projects and activites
Anjela is the office supervisor who contacts school and monitors project finances through tracking payments.

Plas Derw uses self employed Forest School leaders to assist with the delivery of sessiosns. We currently have 7 on our books.
