Swimming is a “sport for all seasons".How much more so for special children, who are deprived from participating in many other sporting activities. Hydrotherapy offers Physical Fitness, Psychomotor Development, Phychological Advantages and Fun Activities.
Ohel Sarah is determined to provide an appropriate and stimulating framework of recreation to those disabled children who are deprived from participating in many other sport and leisure activities
In the pool, having learnt too swim the physically disabled child feels confident liberated to use their limbs unencumbered giving them a sense of freedom that they do not experience out of the water. Additionally for the mentally disabled child research indicates that when other therapies have failed, swimming enhances potential and improves functioning levels.
Provide the disabled child with a sport that he /she can participate and interact with their peers
Activities» By teaching the disabled child to swim and feel confident in the pool, learning acceptable social behaviour such as sharing and waiting one’s turn.
Success will be, when the disabled child will excitedly look forward to its weekly swimming session, both for the activity and to meet friends
Swimming encourages feelings of accomplishment vital for children accustomed to rejection
Activities» The buoyancy of the water helps them walk unaided, play ball, jump and perform other activities – a tremendous boost for their self-image.
Success will be when the child can swim without fear and his/her peers cheering them on.
To strengthen motor skills that are weak – such as balance,eye-hand/foot coordination, and laterality
Activities» Water supports the body.Their overall activity level is raised, the children are more relaxed and can increase their range of motion and flexibility.
Success will be when through the hydrotherapy the disabled student will improve on his/her motor skills
Swimming is a regular activity where the excitement doesn't wane and friendships are strengthened. Hydrotherapy offers continual improvement to the motor skills of our special children
