Summer Days Out

Venus plans, delivers and pays for day trips throughout the summer holidays for disadvantaged women and their children, for example going to the zoo. We find our service users really benefit from these groups days out, particularly families who may only get to see eachother on these particular days!

  • Need

Families unable to afford days out together is a problem frequently seen at Venus. Other issues affecting families in our service such as domestic abuse or social care, further block capabilities of planning days out.
We feel children have the right to have good memories of family activities; and for a number of the children in our service, the days out are the only access they have to seeing a parent.

Venus feels that planning, paying for, and delivering group days out for families, makes it easier for those going through difficult situations, to spend quality time together, without the worry of cost.
Fundraising with families and getting the local community involved in this project will allow Venus to raise awareness of the difficulties families face.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

» A sponsored 101ft abseil from Leasowe Lighthouse (Wirral).

    What success will look like

Success will be...receiving sponsorship money from the 6 volunteer abseilers!

    Aim 2

    Getting the community involved!

» Involve local schools in planning their own fundraising activities to help Venus.

    What success will look like

Success will be...recognition of willingness and co-operation from local schools!

  • Impact

The project will be good for families relationships in the long-term, with the hopes of providing them with long-lasting memories of a good summer! Success of the days out on family relationships will hopefully be demonstrated by the families themselves, but also by the key workers who continue to support our service users.
Community involvement should allow awareness of Venus, as well as eagerness to help; and will be demonstrated by successful lasting relationships with schools and volunteers

There is a risk of not raising enough funds for days out. This is dealt with through planning some free activities, and appealing to local supermarkets to provide food.

Donors of this project will recieve an email report of activities planned, as well as one detailing how successful each day out has been!

    Our Service Users

This project would not be as successful as it has been without our families input and enthusiasm to have a good time as part of a group!

    Our Volunteers

Volunteers help out on the day with many tasks; our days out would not be a success without them!

    Our Staff

Staff plan and deliver summer days out each year; they know what works well and how to overcome any obstacles such as lack of funds or weather.
