Sports and Sensory Garden Equipment

We have a wonderful large garden at Emscote house, but our outdoor equipment is very limited. We would like to buy some specialised equipment, suitable for all our guests, what ever their disability.

  • Need

    Need

We have a safe and secure space outside that is not currently utilised to the maximum. Utilising this space with sports and sensory equipment would extend our facilities, the feeling of an extra room, in the fresh air, and would allow our guests the opportunity to socialise in a fun activity on a piece of equipment they would otherwise not have access to.

    Solution

Having the equipment would mean that our guests could easily access the apparatus in a safe and private garden. Facilitating this space would mean that our guests are not reliant on being taken out of the home to experience long periods of fresh air. It would mean that they could enjoy moving and socialising through sport, and meeting their sensory needs outdoors promoting social and physical development.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To have sports equipment to encourage social and physical development.

    Activities

» The football and cricket targets will mean that they can attempt to join in with participating in conventional sports.

Success will be observing the guests using the equipment and having fun. The social development will be immense, it will give our guests' a great deal of choice outdoors.

    Aim 2

To have equipment to meet our guests' sensory needs to seek out sounds and visuals.

    Activities

» The xylo and chime pipes give them the enjoyment of movement and sound, and the visual of the butterfly target will enhance feeling success.

Success will be seeing the improvement on their well-being, and having the opportunity for our guests to experience success.

  • Impact

    Impact

The long term changes will be that Emscote House will have these facilities in place for approximately 80 adults with a wide variety of disabilities to benefit from over consecutive years. It puts value on their well-being, rights, choices, fulfillment, privacy and dignity. The apparatus is not conventional kit that they could access in the community.

    Risk

All persons supervising our guests on the equipment would need to have health and safety training. They would not be able to allow our guests on the equipment unsupervised. The equipment is weather proof and durable, so is designed to last over time. Most of the equipment is fixed so the guests are not likey to injure themselves.

    Reporting

We can send photographs of the equipment in use. Should donors need proof of receipt or purchase, it is something we could provide too.
