Wrap Up London
Wrap Up London is our winter campaign to collect warm coats for the cities most vulnerable. The campaign attracts over a 1,000 volunteers, each giving as little as 2 hours of their time to make this happen. Last year we collected 24,000 warm coats for over 100 community projects.
November 2018 - December 2018
Charity information: Hands On London
We work with homeless shelters, women's centres, and community centres supporting vulnerable people in London. Many of people are willing to donate a coat to those in need, but have little time or idea of how to do so. Our charity partners have little time or resources to source winter coats for their service users. Wrap Up London brings the two together. We collect the coats, sort them and distribute to over 100 community groups.
Vulnerable Londoners are provided with good quality winter coats at centres across London.
Our project facilitates the redistribution of coats from source to point of need. We provide easy opportunities for busy Londoners to donate coats. We reach out to charities across London and assist them with coats according to capacity and need.
Supply vulnerable Londoners with warm winter coats.
Activities» Our goal this year is to collect at least 18, 000 coats through a widely promoted and established campaign.
Success will be meeting our target of collecting, sorting, and redistributing over 18,000 good quality coats!
Our goal this year is to continue to supply 100 charities/shelters.
Activities» Liaise with charities to find out their requirements, and manage logistical arrangements for them.
Success will be meeting our target of supplying 100 organisations with much needed coats and hearing from them that we have benefited their activity and their service users.
Activities» Volunteers help with coat collections, sorting sessions and distribution to community organisations.
Success will be providing an enjoyable and well organised volunteering opportunity to new volunteers, and linking them up to future, flexible volunteering opportunities
Activities» Provide convenient opportunities for busy Londoners to donate their coats, and facilitate their opportunity to do something meaningful.
Success will be Londoners feeling that they have donated something that makes a real difference to someone's everyday life, and that WUL has facilitated this in an efficient way.
1) Increased awareness of the benefits of in-kind giving.
2) Promotion of volunteering.
1) Year-on-year success and growth of Wrap Up London.
2) Increased numbers of volunteers registered with Hands On London, volunteering at more opportunities.
1. Poor awareness of project / low numbers of coats donated.
We will market the programme widely well in advance via tube advertising, WUL oystercard holders and flyers, and press coverage.
2. Too many women's coats / not enough men's coats versus the need (many more mens coats are needed).
This year we will advertise that we are in desperate of men's coats.
3. Low quality coat donations.
HOL volunteers will check coat donation quality at storage to ensure they are in a decent condition.
We will contact all the shelters we helped deliver coats to, in order to quantify how quickly the coats were taken / used and to get quotes from the beneficiaries and the organisations that we helped. We will also count the number of coat donations we received according to location.

Hands On London has delivered Wrap Up London for seven years. Each year we have been able to improve the campaign and extend its reach. Over this time we built an awareness and an annual initiative that people look forward to joining and community organisations rely on for winter coats.
