To help orphans access Further & Higher Education
Zest for Life supporters sponsor 100+ orphans and vulnerable young people through Secondary School in Kenya and we have one student already in university. We want to help more able young people with no other financial support continue their education at University or Teacher Training College.
Each student is sponsored for 3 years
Charity information: Zest For Life
We are addressing the problems faced by orphans who do not have the means to continue their education beyond Secondary level. Having sponsored the students through school we want to continue supporting them into university to utilise their abilities, maximise their life opportunities and to help them put something back into their own communities by fulfilling their earning potential. Our sponsored students are committeed hard working young people who deserve a chance to shine.
Our project will solve the problem by giving these young people hope, offering opportunity and enriching life experience. Accessing further or higher education will maximise the chances of gaining qualifications that well result in well paid jobs and help to break the cycle of poverty; improving education opportunity will help our beneficiaries to help themselves and to put something back into their home communities.
To provide further education opportunity for orphaned and vulnerable young people
Activities» Recruit sponsors who will make regular payments to fund university courses in Kenya.
What success will look like
Success will be placing students on University or Teacher Training courses in Kenya providing all the resources they need to achieve their potential
We will know we have been successful when we see graduating students at the end of their courses entering employment or returning to teach in their home communities.
Risk 1: Not being able to raise sufficient funds: We have dealt with this by limiting the number of students accepted onto our sponsorship scheme year on year.
Risk 2: Students dropping out of courses: We have dealt with this by identifying personal mentors to whom the students can turn if they face any difficulties and by keeping in close contact with the students.
We regularly report to donors through our quarterly newsletter, through our website and at special events throughout the year.

The students live and attend school in the Sondu District of Nyakatch province Western Kenya and will attend Universities and Colleges in the same region.
Our beneficiaries are poor young people who have been orphaned by AIDS and who mainly come from families who were subsistence farmers. The area is characterised by poverty, lack of education and health facilities and has a poor communication network.
Zest for Life developed from a global schools partnership established 7 years ago. Operating independently since 2008, the Charity has in depth knowledge of the community, strong friendship and partnership links and is working with other NGO's and the British Council to further develop two schools. More recently the Charity has forged a link with a community co-operative and is involved in loan finance for micro business and training for care givers in the community.
