Need
Need
Vulnerable children need education to break the cycle of poverty that traps more than half of Haitians. Yet, many families simply can’t afford to send their children to school. Without even the most basic of schools, these children are often condemned to live a life of insecurity and poverty.
Solution
Our project has identified 10 children in the local community who have been affected by generations of poverty. We’ve enrolled these kids in school and intend to support them through a full secondary school education. We also hope to enrol more children every year.

Impact
Impact
By equipping these vulnerable children with the basic skills they need to find work and support themselves, this project will help the children break the cycle of poverty. Success will be demonstrated by the children’s ability support themselves and build a future free from poverty.
Risk
There is a risk that children in the programme may not receive a quality education. The children need to not only be present in school, but be absorbing the information and performing well academically. To ensure that this is not the extra help for the children and two visits a month from Haitian staff who meet with the children’s teachers. The teachers provide student evaluations, and any child who is not performing well is scheduled for extra help.
Reporting
All IDV donors receive quarterly updates detailing our programme’s successes and challenges. Larger donors can also request special updates .

Why Us?
Why Us?
IDV was based in Port au Prince from June 2010 to December 2011. Our model of inclusive, community based disaster recovery gave us a great deal of time to work with survivors to understand their needs. One of the greatest concerns raised again and again was education for vulnerable children. So, we designed our scholarship programme to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of the community – children living in poverty.
