International Development Fund

We make theatre collaboratively with the finest theatrical talent in Europe and beyond. International working means visits to see work, to make partnerships, host in the UK, and commission them to make something new and exciting. We need your help to do create the most exciting contemporary theatre.

  • Need

UK theatre is often considered to live in its own bubble. We want to bring artists from abroad to work with UK theatre makers to make a new form of theatre that excites, challenges and reflects the modern world in which we live. Our international collaborations will work with the best artists from abroad, often unheard of in the narrow UK theatre world, to collaboratively work with our own artists to make truly exciting work.

We will develop our programme, attending festivals, seeing work and meeting artists to bring to the UK to collaborate with artists based here. We will host their visits in London, introduce them to venues and practitioners, support workshop programmes and produce full scale productions which will tour around the UK widely to audiences that have limited or no potential to explore theatre forms from outside the UK.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To create truly collaborative work with international artists, here in the UK

» We will locate & forge partnerships with artists & venues, host & support workshops & produce productions by the most exciting foreign theatre makers

    What success will look like

Success will be...shown by the number of artists we can host - aiming to be 3 per year, and at least 1 production made and toured in the UK each year

  • Impact

We hope to forge partnerships with venues and artists internationally into the future which will allow for repeat visits, for work created to play elsewhere, and for more opportunities for international artists to make theatre in the UK, in collaboration

Taste in theatre and costs involved in hosting are the major risks. We address these by bringing in potential project partners at an early stage and forging a clear identity for the project before it starts. The cost of hosting has to be met by fundraising before we can give the go ahead for it to happen, allowing it to be cost neutral to the company.

Donors receive regular updates on projects, invitations to work in progress showings, and the opportunity to travel with the company on tour in the UK and abroad, gaining a deep and close insight into the company's workings.
