  • Need

    Need

“All I can tell you is that me, myself and the group I was in, none of us have got jobs. I’ve been out of work now for coming up 2 years, 18 months…. look this is what’s gonna happen if there’s no jobs offered to us out there.”

22 year old male London rioter, summer 2011

    Solution

The UK Poverty Solutions Map will provide a scientifically valid as well as visually compelling approach to targeting unemployment in the hotspots. The map will demonstrate clearly where further vocational training is required, in order to help reduce unemployment.

The map can be given to MPs and social leaders and a huge variety of philanthropists and social activists.

  • Aims

» Collect UK vocational training data for England, Scotland, N.Ireland, Wales - DONE
» Make a demonstration map for London - DONE
» Make a UK wide map - TO DO Make the whole process a Wiki data collection coupled to an automatic on line mapping

Success will be creation of a UK wide map showing overlaps of worst unemployment and worst vocational training.

  • Impact

    Impact

Inspiration of rational and carefully thought through sustainable employment initiatives in areas of high unemployment in the UK.

Please email rupertdouglasbate@globalmapaid.org for the London example.

    Risk

There are very few risks. We have asked for donors to step forward but none have done so yet. So we will continue to make the map regardless.

If we had the cash, we could make the map very much more quickly as well as disseminate it quickly and more effectively.

We think that in a double dip recession this is a useful tool.

    Reporting

There is no proof of action - like a completed map.

We would agree to complete the map to a deadline.
