  • Need

There is little for the young people to get involved in over the long summer holiday which can lead to anti social behaviour in certain areas. We want to focus their creativity into something more positive, and in so doing encourage young people to persue the arts as a career. A lot of the parents of these young people do not have the disposable income to pay for activities so we want to offer affordable activities for young people in these situations.

We want to provide constructive activites that the young people can get involved in, increasing their skills and confidence at the same time. The activities will take place in local venues within walking distance of where most of these young people live removing the need for them to travel. The activities are offered at the minimal cost of £1 so as not to exclude anyone.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To involve young people in deprived areas constuctive, affordable arts workshops on their doorstep.

» 100 workshops in 8 rural or deprived venues accross North Lincolnshire. These are fun art sessions where they will have something to take home.

    What success will look like

Success will be engaging 10 or more young people at each session who have had fun, made new friends, learnt something new and been involved in something constructive.

  • Impact

The project has already been running for 7 years and we have seen young people who have taken part in activities year on year now want to come back and help now that they are older. They are using this experience on their cv's on applications to colleges for arts based courses.

Funding as always an issue, we will udjust the ammount of sessions we deliver based on funding available.

Funders will receive an evaluation of the project complete with pictures. Should there be any major changes to the project while it is taking place, funders will be made aware via email.

  • Background

This project will take place in rural and deprived areas of North Lincolnshire where more then 50% of children receive free school dinners. In particular some of the estates where we have offered activities before a lot of the children come from single parent families and families surviving on benefits alone. The artists provide a positive role model for a lot of these young people.

The children taking part in the activities will benefit from increased skills and confidence and their communities will benefit from having young people with more positive attitudes. Young people will have increased aspirations and be able to offer a more positive contribution to their communities whether it is through volunteering or eventually gaining employment.
