Sandwell Hospital Fibroscanner appeal
The Upper GI Blues 5-a-side football tournament will bring together staff members from Sandwell Hospital and Invitation teams to raise money to buy a fibroscanner which will help people with liver disease who are at risk of cancer.
Upper Gi Blues
Chronic liver disease puts people at high risk of developing cancer. Screening identifies cancer early, increasing the chances of cure. Those who will benefit from screening need to be identified as early as possible. Currently, this is done using a painful, risky procedure costing about £900. This is done as a day case and the patient has to be observed for hours afterwards.
Upper GI Blues are arranging a 5-a-side football tournament in order to raise money to buy a fibroscanner for Sandwell Hospital. The FibroScan is a painless test that works in a similar way to ultrasound. It gives a computer-generated image and an immediate readout that tells exactly what the damage is. Patients are then able to go home straight after. In the process of arranging the event we will be raising awareness of the problem.
Stage a 5-a-side tournament to raise money for the scanner.

Success will be achieving 8 teams each contributing £30 towards the appeal and raising extra funds on the day with raffles.
The project will boost the fibroscan appeal by raising awareness and adding to the funds.
There is a risk that some teams may pull out of tournament. We have players in reserve if this happens.
Funders of the project will receive a report after the tournament.
