Think Children Big Give Project

Think Children's Big Give project offers effective early help for vulnerable children aged 4-11 with emerging emotional, behavioural and social issues, tackling an increasing need and filling a gap in preventative services before issues get worse and harder to solve.

  • Need


    An evidenced gap in services for vulnerable young children who are experiencing a range of issues such as:-
    bereavement, separation and loss
    violence in the family
    poor health
    low self esteem/confidence
    health issues
    family breakdown
    exposure to crime
    social exclusion


    By providing early help at the onset of a problem, below statutory intervention thresholds, our sessions stop a downward spiral. Sessions allow the child to build emotional resilience and provide them with coping skills to deal with the difficulties they face, enabling them to feel more confident, more in control and help them to break away from engrained social attitudes Recent user quote;

    Provide early support for vulnerable children who are struggling to cope with emotional issues.


    » Provide one to one 'Emotional Wellbeing' sessions to children from a wide range of issues to give them the tools to be more emotionally resilient

    What success will look like

    Externally verified evaluation will demonstrate benefits continue to accrue after intervention. Feedback from the service user, the schools, parents/carers and the facilitator

  • Impact


    Evaluation methods will demonstrate:-
    Calmer happier children better able to communicate their problems/ feelings and
    build positive relationships
    Increased confidence/self esteem therefore better able to achieve socially and academically.
    Less likely to drift into a life of crime, anti-social behaviour, vandalism and drugs
    Increased school attendance and less likely to be excluded
    Ability to understand their emotions, events they experience and their situations in life.


    Too many referrals- Prioritise or increase the hours of exsisting sessions workers (we have the capacity at present) if funding available
    Reduced funding - project will have to be scaled back less children supported while seek alternative funding streams and keep as diverse as possible.

  • Background


    This project will be based across Nottinghamshire, including often hard to reach communities in areas of multiple deprivation. The one to one Emotional Wellbeing sessions will be delivered into the child's primary school but the parents/carers will have the opportunity to select an alternative venue if required. We aim to meet the needs of the community we serve.


    Children aged 4-11 living mainly in areas of high multiple deprivation across Nottinghamshire whose emotional wellbeing issues fall below statutory intervention levels. Benefits accrue for the child, the family, school and the wide community.     Our effective frontline service has a proven track record of success, with independent follow up evaluations showing the 85% of children we support experience fundamental positive changes after our intervention. Our highly experienced grassroots team as well as strong links with schools (currently approx. 70), third sector organisations, statutory providers and health services means we are held in high-esteem and seen as a trusted organisation with high levels of expertise.

    Emotional Wellbeing Facilitators

    Experienced team delivering up to 12 one to one sessions of emotional wellbeing facilitation. Local grassroots people to whom the children relate.
