Beit Tikvah - Hoping for a better tomorrow
Like the average young adult is trained and secures employment, so will our 150 young adults with special needs be offered training and employment in the new Beit Tikvah complex.
October 2012 - January 2014
Charity information: Ohel Sarah
1. Train and occupy mature disabled students, so that they can live a meaningful life.
2. Relieve the pressure on elderly parents, so that these students can be independent.
3. Promoting responsibility where the more able students can be employed, earn money and live independently.
We believe that adults with disabilities deserve the chance to spend their days involved in meaningful employment, to feel the satisfaction of doing a job well. Presently we are training students in packaging, labelling, marketing goods etc. The Beit Tikvah building will expand its programmes, secure more goods from the corporate sector and widen the horizon for training for these students.
Offer employment opportunities that will open bridges of communication within the community.
Activities» Every student has a unique programme to suit their ability to provide them with skills and opputunities to enter the job market.
What success will look like
Success will be assessed by number of contracts received from companies, workplaces secured, invitations to exhibit our work and orders that are received in our Employment Centre.
Ease the pressure on elderly parents and large families where the special needs child causes strain.
Activities» We work with parents and cares to ensure that what is being offered is conducive to the home environment.
» Our older students live in sheltered accommodation in our Residential Unit and live iindependently with a House Mother.
» Ohel Sarah's care extendsto all aspects of a disabled student's live. Regular medical check-ups are undertaken and that they are healthy and well.
What success will look like
73 students are living in our residential flats. There parents are satisfied and grateful that their children are happy, fully integrated into the community.
To implement life skills that promotes integration and builds confidence and self-esteem.
Activities» Every student has a support mentor who instructs, guides and supports the individual student.
» With the support of their mentors our students are guided to experience real life.
What success will look like
The skills acquired in their younger years are retained and developed so that our students can continue to integrate with their peers and lead a meaningful life.
Ohel Sarah is committed to ensure that our older students live a meaningful and independent life. We will upgrade our approach to employment, campaign for the rights of our client group, ensuring that they can enter the labour market. Success is seen on a daily basis. We celebrate 24 students who have been trained and are employed in the local hospital, post office, supermarket and nurseries.
Our steering group has ensured that all policies are in place and have carried out a risk assessment. We have full take up of space and 50 applicants who want to join our programme. The only issue that arises is lack of funding to build within the scheduled time-frame.
As a policy we keep our donors informed on all aspects of our work. Any potential donor that has shown an interest in any of Ohel Sarah's projects are updated regularly and invited to visit Ohel Sarah.

Beit Tikva will be located outside Tel Aviv. Beit Tikva will be housed on a 2,000 square metre plot. The steering group comprises of representatives from the local authority, social welfare agencies and specialist agencies who are skilled in the needs of disability ensuring that this complex is fully compliant with regulations and suitable for the needs of this project.
150 mature students will benefit from this new training and employment complex. Ohel Sarah has an excellent track record in supporting learning disabled. Services offered cater from the ages of 6 until the end of life. Many of our students come from large families and poverty is rampant amongst many. In our plans in this new build, we plan to open a kitchen that will provide hot meals to our students in all our day centres.
Since these students have been with Ohel Sarah, they have been encouraged and trained in life and social skills, leading to independence. This training and employment project proves to Society that giving mature disabled students the right training, they will be able to join the workforce and live independently.
