JAM Mozambique Deworming project
JAM seeks assistance in acquiring deworming medication for 300,000 primary school aged children participating in JAM’s school feeding program.
Charity information: JAM (Joint Aid Management)
Evidence suggests that regular treatment can reduce school absenteeism by 25% and increase adult earnings by over 20%, and at a cost of less than 31 pence per child per year. The nutritional value of deworming cannot be stressed enough. The growth rate and weight gain of children who are regularly de-wormed is higher than who those who aren’t. Hence regular deworming is the best solution for many of the childhood illnesses.
JAM is well placed through this program to administer much needed deworming medication complimenting the program’s broader objectives of alleviating short term hunger in order to facilitate learning and educational achievement. The multiple benefits of a school meal and deworming medication will influence attendance and increase participation in class.
