young peoples counselling appeal
we have seen an increase of 140% in demand for our young peoples counselling services with insufficient funding to support the service. we want to provide an additional 1000 free of charge counseling sessions for children in distress and suffering bullying, bereavement and crises in their lives
this is an ongoing service
Charity information: Murray Hall Community Trust
Children and young people have a range of challenges in their lives, research has shown that the long term effects of toxic stress in childhood is linked to continuing mental ill health, poor adult physical health, lower educational attainment etc.
this year the demand for this service has increased by 140% and we cannot find sufficient additional funds from the NHS or local authorities to meet the need
Quality counselling has been shown to be highly effective in helping children and young people deal with issues and move on in their lives, reducing stress and improving outcomes
Our young peoples counselling service has been running for several years and is outstanding. We work closely with CAMHS in the region operating a single point of access to therapy in Sandwell. We have outstanding outcomes for children and an excellent reputation with schools and GP's who refer children to us
to provide an additional 1000 counselling sessions for children and young people

counselling is an effective threapy which has been shown to increase school attendance and attainment, promote better mental health, improve family functioning and improve long term general health
We currently run the service at levels based on previous years demands so this baseline service will continue. without additional funds we cannot meet the increased demand. we continue to approach a range of funders in order to boost our capacity.

Sandwell in the West Midlands
Sandwell is the 12th most deprived borough in the country measured on indices of mulitple deprivation, with poor prospects for a rising number of under 16 year olds (12% birth rate increase year on year). with worsening employment prospects for families and young people and a reducing industrial base from what was a centre of industry family stress is clearly increasing and this is impacting on the mental well-being of children as shown by the increased demand for counselling
we are the main provider of children and young persons counselling services in the West Midlands
