KlezFest London: Yiddish Culture for a New Generation

The purpose is to increase the cultural identity in young Jewish people of all denominations and to encourage cultural exchange between Jewish people and those of other cultures. Yiddish was the language and culture of 11 million Eastern European Jews before the pogroms in Eastern Europe forced many to emigrate to the West and before the Holocaust decimated those that were left. Subsequently this language and culture was nearly destroyed though a combination of active suppression, neglect and assimilation
