Need
Need
Being diagnosed with or receiving treatment for cancer can bring up a whole range of feelings that can be difficult to deal with. These feelings might centre around one’s illness, or past or present personal circumstances. Those affected by cancer can suppress their emotions, grief and may suffer from anxiety and depression. They may have difficulty expressing or communicating their true feelings. Those with cancer may be living with pain and discomfort following their treatment
Solution
Art therapy is an activity that allows people to express difficult feelings that might be hard to put into words. It can be a safe way for people with cancer and their families to explore emotions such as anger, fear and anxiety about the cancer and treatment. Some adults and children find it easier to express difficult emotions and painful times through being creative, rather than trying to talk things through.Reports suggest that art therapy can improve patients quality of life

Risk
The Art therapy is conducted by a trained art therapist. There are no particular risks involved in art therapy. However, should a patient become distressed for any reason, Chai has counsellors on hand to support them
Reporting
Chai can provide project reports to donors that highlight number and frequency of service users, feedback as to benefit of service. The reports can include case studies but they will need to anonymous to protect the confidentiality of the users
