  • Need

    Need

Currently the programme temporary and makeshift office / teaching and treatment spaces that are ‘borrowed’ from other parts of our operation in Vallioor. This includes dining rooms and bedrooms within our children’s homes. We have plans to develop the education programme to support the planned growth in student numbers, to supplement the children’s learning and to enhance their chances of finding good employment at the end of the process. However to to all of this we need a dedicated centre.

    Solution

The new centre will be the new base for the 6 staff who run the education outreach programme and the 258 children who are currently enrolled. It will free up much needed space in our residential homes and it will allow us to grow and develop the programme, essentially so that we can offer an education to many more disadvantaged children who would otherwise have no hope of ever going to school.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To build a new centre for the Education Outreach Programme

    Activities

» Fundraising. We will approach up to 15 existing trust and foundation supporters. We have already secured 40% of the total funds required

Success will be...the planned expansion of the programme to support 500 children bythe end of 2013. The delivery of a better service to those already enrolled.

  • Impact

    Impact

The children we support get to go to school. They would otherwise have no hope of an education. The children enrolled on the Education Outreach Programme last year scored a 100% pass rate in their year 10 exams (GCSE equiv) and 99% pass rate at Year 11 (A Level equiv). Long term, these children are supported by us to attend university or vocational courses. All the graduates of the programme last year went on to secure good jobs and are now self sufficient. We offer a sustainable solution.

    Risk

The only risk associated with this project is the possibility of not raising enough money to start the building works. We will seek funding from other sources if we do not raise the necessary funds from the sources already identified.

    Reporting

A report will be sent to all donors at the completion of the build which we anticipate will be 4-6 months. Additional reporting will be sent on the progress of the Education Outreach Programme on an annual basis, as required by each donor.

  • Background

    Location

Vallioor, Tamil Nadu State, South India

    Beneficiaries

Children from disadvantaged families. Many of the children we support are orphans. The whole community will benefit from the project and as the children become self sufficient. they will be less reliant on their families as they grow into adulthood and able to take care of their own families once they are in employment.
