Enabling CDR to look after 35+ old & sick donkeys
The daily ongoing running costs need to be maintained otherwise Judy will be unable to continue running the centre - sometimes single-handedly. She has dedicated her life to saving and caring for abandoned and unwanted donkeys in Corfu and without donations the whole enterprise will collapse.
For as long as donations continue.
Charity information: Friends of Corfu Donkey Rescue
The continued protection of donkeys on the island relies heavily on Corfu Donkey Rescue. Without it, unwanted donkeys will be simply abandoned and left to die or sent for slaughter for meat in Italy. Donkeys are abandoned because they are too old, are sick or because owners cannot afford to keep them any more. Abandoned cats and dogs are growing rapidly as well for the same reasons - CDR is very proud to say that it never turns an animal away, despite the rising costs of keeping them all.
Donations of any amount are both welcome and essential and will go towards consistent running costs - always rising! For example, feeding donkeys costs in the region of £320 a week. Other expenses include:
£9 - buys donkey nuts for a donkey for a week
£14 - buys wormer paste to worm 3 donkeys
£14 - pays a farrier to trim the hooves of a donkey
£21 - one donkey’s hay for a month
£50 - a bottle of donkey pain killer
£90 - buys 3 blankets to keep the donkeys warm in winter
To support Judy in providing a safe donkey shelter and returning them to good health where possible
Activities» Raise awareness of the difficulties of running a centre for so many donkeys and other animals and try to encourage donations.
What success will look like
Success will be being recognised for providing a haven for sick and old animals, returning them to good health where possible and providing a safe haven for their retirement.
Judy is dependent on international volunteer helpers (very few during the winter, though). She has run the centre on her own much of the time and has to concentrate on raising funds. Consistent donations will keep the centre alive and they will allow Judy more time to concentrate on the future. She needs to establish a succession plan; find and train someone to run it to ensure the long-term survival of CDR.
That people are unaware of Judy's tireless efforts and don't offer their support. All we can do is raise awareness and hope that by doing so people will be encouraged to donate.
Progress at the centre is updated through blogs on CDR's own website www.corfu-donkeys.com.

From Corfu Town:
Head north on the Paleocastritsa main road. Approximately 2 km before the village of Doukades is a 'Villa Alexandra' on the right hand side. Turn right immediately after it (if you see a sign for Liapades/Giannades you have gone a little too far). Follow the tarmac road and take the 2nd dirt track left. At the tiny orange house turn right and follow to the end of the track where you will find CDR.
Rescue donkeys, cats and dogs.
We are the only charity set up specifically to act on behalf of CDR in the UK.

Judy is the founder of CDR, and she remains the only permanent person (unpaid) working the rescue centre; being assisted by seasonal volunteers.
Paul is a trustee of FCDR who visits Corfu twice a year for around a month to carry out essential maintenance and building work.
