Druglink's Minibus Project
Druglink have a 9 bed residential rehabilitation & detox house in Hemel Hempstead & follow on supported housing in Herts & Luton. A mini bus will help us to transport service user between locations & will allow us to extend their existing activity programme, thus enhancing their recovery journey.
6 Months (ongoing use once purchased)
Charity information: Druglink Limited
Druglink are a multi-project charity with interlinking facilities spanning multiple locations. We do not currently have a vehicle that can facilitate transportation of service users between sites and/or to external group activities. This means that any regular activities that we scheduled must either be in-house or very local. We would like to be able to offer an extended programme.
Druglink's Minibus will solve the current transportation problem as it will provide us with a vehicle that has the capacity to transport service users between residential / care facilities in Hemel Hempstead and Luton. It will also enable the respective Druglink service manager to pre-book the Druglink Minibus so that they can schedule group activities without transport restrictions. To promote inclusion, we would like to ensure that the minibus has wheelchair access.
Enable service users to travel between Druglink sites, increasing access to all available services.
Activities» The proposed minibus can be driven on a car licence so can be utilised by multiple staff members to transport service users between Druglink sites.
What success will look like
We will demonstrate the success of this aim by documenting the number of between site visits made, detailing the number of service users transported per visit.
Enable service managers to offer and facilitate an extended service user activity programme.
Activities» Staff will be able to facilitate external activities by transporting groups of service users as needed, thus enhancing the recovery journey.
What success will look like
We will demonstrate the success of this aim by documenting the number of visits made, the number of service users transported and type of activities undertaken per visit.
The Druglink Minibus Project will bring about significant change for service users as it will provide them with improved access to services (internally & externally provided). Service user participation in carefully selected activities improves the recovery journey by building skills & increasing overall recovery capital. Detailed logs will be maintained of all Minibus use to demonstrate which activities / visits have been undertaken & the number of service users who have benefited as a result.
Lack of funding could influence the success of this project. Though ideally, we would like to purchase a new, 17 seater minibus - if funds raised were not sufficient to do this then we would instead seek to purchase a second hand and/or smaller sized vehicle.
We produce a quarterly newsletter detailing Druglink's activities. Once Druglink's Minibus Project is up and running, details of how it's being used will be included. In addition, donors will be invited to receive bi-monthly detailed reports showing the benefits that the minibus has provided.

Oxygen, is Druglink’s beautifully renovated 9 bedroom residential detox and rehab facility, based in Hemel Hempstead. Once service users have completed residential treatment, they progress to 'move-on' accommodation either locally or at our ResoLUTioNs Hub in Luton. At this stage, they engage in a tailored programme of on-going support combining group work, voluntary work, ETE (education, training and employment), Mutual Aid and other opportunities designed to help build recovery capital.
In addition to directly benefitting individual service users and their families, provision of a Druglink Minibus will enable service users to engage more fully in projects and activities that aim to benefit the local communities in which activities are based. For example, Druglink will be able to transport service users to voluntary placements where they will be benefiting their local communities and the charities which they serve / volunteer for.
Druglink have over 30 years worth of experience in Substance Misuse services so are well placed to carry out the proposed Mini Bus Project. As mentioned in previous sections, Druglink currently run rehabilitation, detox and community facilities for service users at various different locations. Druglink also actively help service users to find voluntary and paid positions to aid recovery. The Minibus Project will add a new dimension to work already being carried out.
