Charity information: Calthorpe Project
Many families living in Kings Cross live in overcrowded flats with no open space. There are few places that are safe in which children can play outdoors, exploring the environment, getting plenty of exercise and meeting their friends.
By opening our community garden 7 days a week, we will provide a safe, inspiring and welcoming space for children and their families from all cultures. Feedback from one of our users sums us up "I hope that you can continue funding this amazing place where strangers can walk in and become friends. The staff have become my family and it would be heart breaking for me and my children to loose such a great place".
To provide a safe place for the local community to meet and get to know one another
Activities» To provide activities for the whole community to enjoy and to meet one another.
Success will be.to keep our project open so we can continue to provide services for our 1500 annual service users and 40,000 gargen visitors annually..
When the children who come here now have grown up, they will come back with their own children and continue to enjoy our beautiful oasis in the heart of Kings Cross
We are asking for funding in a number of ways; from creating friends of the Calthorpe, corporate sponsorship, completing grant applications and asking for donations. In this way we hope to reduce the most urgent risk to our project of not a securing necessary funding.

We are a community garden in Kings Cross
Kings Cross has more young people aged under 16 than the national average. It is predicted that the population will grow by 18% over the next few years.
Our community garden opened 27 years ago. We are the only garden of our kind in the area and the only space to offer food growing space alongside children's activities, football and under fives provision.
