  • Need

    Need

We continue to explore further opportunities for data publication that will enrich public understanding, and we have determined that there is much mileage in providing an accessible view of the UK electricity market data. While there is currently available some valuable material from electricity industry websites, it represents a snapshot in time, is difficult for the layman to understand and is not searchable.

    Solution

Having this data available on REF’s website will have the effect of putting REF’s work on renewables into the necessary context of the overall system.

This project would also be a step towards putting pressure on the UK electricity market to become much more transparent.

  • Impact

    Impact

By having this data available and easily accessible in one site it will show the work REF does into the necessary context of the overall UK energy system and with also put pressure on teh UK electricty market to become much more transparent.

    Risk

Availability of Data and access to data is crucial. A lot of data is in the public domain already but there is nothing joining it all together which is what we would do providing a wide-ranging and extensive database.

    Reporting

We would enjoy a close relationship with our donors on the progress of the project and when it is up and running how the data is being utilised. Regular reports will be prepared to an agreed timetable and involvement, if so wished, in any launch or public events relating to the database.
