Marlborough International Jazz Festival
To promote jazz as part of the performing arts and by so doing to bring cultural, social and economic benefit to all who are involved
July 2012 - July 2012
Charity information: Marlborough Arts Association
To keep the jazz genre alive and educate the public to the fact that jazz is not only traditional jazz but encompasses many other types of music. Young musicians do not always have the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience made up of other than their friends and families. There are many professional musicians willing to work with students but there is not always a vehicle to merge the two.
Approximately 80 different bands will be booked to perform during the 3 day period covering the entire spectrum of jazz music including but not limited to: traditional jazz, jazz rock, big band swing, cool blues, Latin vibes with promotional material to match. We will propose some of these bands work within the local schools. We will provide a free bandstand where school bands will be performing.
Grow the importance of the view of the arts within our Local District Plan
Activities» Strive to get the new plan focused in this area by providing the overall Jazz Festival
What success will look like
Success will be...obtained in the overall cooperation between the Festival and the Town and County Councils
Provide an opportunity for students to perform before live audiences
Activities» Set up a programme involving professional musicians working with local junior schools then bringing those performances to the Festival
What success will look like
Success will be...bringing in those special bands that can work well with students and help them enjoy the art of performing
Long term effects will be in setting precedences for the Councils to provide services for all arts projects in the community. Bringing new performers to the stage and being able to invite them back year after year.
Bands could pull out after having been booked and confirmed. We have an extensive list of local bands that could be substituted at the last minute.
Donors will be notified through social networking sites and the Marlborough Jazz Festival website advising the names of the bands as they are booked and which day they will appear. We will also provide postal mailings with promotional material in the months receding the Festival.
