Promoting Tai Chi for Health

We want all the Tai Chi teachers and trustees in the country to know about Pop Up Tai Chi and to start using our website to promote events that will encourage more people to take up Tai Chi and thus improve their health.

This will be an ongoing project we would like to continue and develop each year.

  • Need

There are so many people in the country today who are suffering from physical, mental and emotional health disorders that Tai Chi can help to alleviate. The current recession and social issues do not help with this. Tai Chi needs to be better promoted so that people recognise the benefits that it can have on their health and wellbeing.

This project introduces a new way for Tai Chi group organisers to promote their activity to new groups of people.

Pop Up Tai Chi is all about bringing the grace and discipline of our movement into spaces where you would least expect to find it. Be that in a car park, in the middle of a cricket match, or high up on the side of a mountain...

... it's all about the inspirational in unexpected places.

This project provides a free, innovative way for Tai Chi to be promoted to more people.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To get all the Tai Chi teachers and groups in the country using the Pop Up Tai Chi website.

    Success will be...
A massive growth in the number of current events listed in the Pop Up Tai Chi ning community

    Aim 2

To better promote Pop Up Tai Chi to the public so that they will attend Pop Up Tai Chi events.

» Employ a professional PR and media campaign to get the public to visit the Pop Up Tai Chi website, ning community, facebook page and to follow Tweets.

    Success will be...
An increased membership in the ning community of Pop Up Tai Chi and also successful Pop Up Tai Chi events attended by lots of people.

  • Impact

In the long term this Pop Up Tai Chi project will increase participation in Tai Chi which is an EMD (Exercise, Movement and Dance) activity. Through partnership will the Exercise, Movement and Dance Partnership (EMDP) recognised by Sport England an increase in Tai Chi participation will be evident through the Active People Survey. We also envisage that the project will impact on the public health in England and on getting people more active in their communities - quite difficult to evidence.

We cannot envisage any risks associated with this project that we have not already neutralised. We have undertaken a comprehensive risk assessment in particular to ensure that our online presence is secure.

Donors will be able to witness the impact of our project directly through the online presence of Pop Up Tai Chi: website, ning community, facebook page, twitter feeds. The Tai Chi community have the option of posting blogs, video, photos and other comments directly online.
