Helping Deaf people to live independently
SignHealth run six registered care homes in London, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham. These provide supported living for Deaf adults with enduring mental health problems and enables them to develop independent living skills in a community setting.
This is ongoing.
There is a severe lack of supposed housing provision for Deaf people with learning difficulties or mental health problems. SignHealth provides seven supported housing projects with 24-hour care given by staff who are either Deaf themselves or fluent in British Sign Language. Residents have their own flats, complete with washing and cooking facilities. There are also communal areas where residents can come together to socialise.
The focus is on successfully bridging the gaps between the deaf and hearing world and enabling our residents to live independently within the wider community. Each tenant receives an individualised care and support package.
Success will be measurable.
We are always happy to report back to donor organisations on the progress of our projects.
