Project information

Handy Van for Handy Man (or Woman)

We would like to raise £20,000 to replace our two old vans to continue delivering our Handy Service to the older people of Dacorum & St Albans.
Last year we helped 900 older people with this vital service and this year we expect to help more.
All funds raised will go directly to the project.

  • Need

Changing a light bulb may not seem difficult, but if you have poor mobility, or poor eyesight, this can be a very big problem. Our handyperson service carries out lots of small, but important jobs like this, as well as installing smoke alarms, door chains, doors spy holes, door locks. Fitting grab rails and stair hand rails to reduce falls.
In addition, the handy person will fit a telephone extension kit to enable a client to have a lifeline service in their home.

All of these and many other small jobs completed by the handy person service, enable older people to remain safe, warm and independent at home.
Our vans are vital resources to enable us to offer this service, safely and securely for our team and our clients.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To purchase two vans enabling us to maintain our services.

» To deliver the Handy Person service across Dacorum & St Albans.

Success will be purchasing the two vans.

  • Impact

The longer term effect of the service will be:
    - Preventing trips and falls in older people's homes
    - Increasing personal safety and wellbeing in the home
    - Improving fire prevention and planning escape routes
    - Ensuring older people maintian their independence and ability to live at home for as long as is practical.

The risk of the project is not raising enough funds to replace the current vans. We have planned for this by develping a fundraising campaign aimed at raising the necessary funds over the next 24 months.

We will be reporting back to out donors and supporters via our Annual Report, a quarterly newsletter and updates on our website.
