Dementia clinic nurse
BRACE helps fund research in the Bristol Brain Centre. This additional post will improve patient care as well as enhancing research. The nurse will support patients through diagnosis and subsequent treatment, and reduce waiting times generally.

Need
The difficult experience of patients who receive a diagnosis of an incurable neurological disease. Some treatments (not cures) are available, and could be administered with help from the nurse. The role would also provide emotional support for the patient and their family and reduce waiting times for others.

Impact
Impact
Our long term aim is to maintain funding for this post through continuous fundraising, using the impact of the new nurse as evidence. We have previous experience of working in this way to create and sustain a clinic role.
Risk
NHS cutbacks to related posts. None are expected, and the Trust has increased its dementia commitment in recent years.

All donor will have the option to be added to our mailing list. They will then receive our three mailings each year (more by email if this means is selected). Information regarding BRACE funded research is also posted on our website.

Beneficiaries
Patients attending the dementia clinic and receiving a diagnosis of dementia or MCI. Ultimately this project will benefit dementia patients worldwide.

BRACE was a key funder in creating the Bristol Brain Centre and also the dementia research team (ReMemBr Group) within it. We have a close association with this research group and understand its needs through regular conversation with the PI and team members.
