  • Need

The project is part of the wider fight against dementia, but focuses on specific areas. These include psychological testing and trials of new medicines.

It will contribute important findings to the wider research into dementia, based in universities and other research facilities around the world.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Developing early markers of dementia

» Visuospatial testing in MCI patients and longitudinal assessment of progression to dementia

    What success will look like

Success will be...published articles in peer-reviewed journal resulting in early detection of dementias and enhanced care for patients

Cognitive profiling of dementia patients facilitating clinical trials of cognitive enhancement

» Developing cognitive assessments to designed to allow dementia therapy to be targeted to an individual patient

    What success will look like

    Aim 3

Measuring gait and balance in dementia

» Purchase validated gait and balance testing equipment to use as a assessment tool for clinical trials of patients with dementia

    What success will look like

Success will be...published articles in peer-reviewed journal resulting in enhanced care for patients

  • Impact

The long term aim of the project is the ability to offer improved, more effective treatment in dementia patients targeted to the individual.
Success will be demonstrated by improvement in cognitive function of patients and less reliance on their carers.

Core funding is guaranteed for at least 5 years.

This risk is that opportunities for enhanced research will be lost if additional resourced are not found. We are therefore seeking to raise funds for extra equipment and psychology services.

All donor will have the option to be added to our mailing list. They will then receive our newsletter twice a year and annual research update. There is also the option to receive by email if preferred. Information regarding BRACE funded research is also posted on our website.
