  • Need

There are many children that are unaware of the basic rules of healthy living, and tend to have lack of exercises, swimming, sports and eat fatty unhealthy foods and don't realise until it's too late. They have put on excessive weight and then turn out to be complexed, depressed and shy into isolation due to lack of confidence.

By incorporating into our five weeks of holiday play-scheme an emphasis on healthy eating, teaching new healthy cooking skills, decorating fruit and vegetable arrangements and taking them swimming, cycling, sports and exercise classes will encourage a positive attitude towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. We will monitor and follow it up throughout the year to see the improvements in childrens weight control and what they enjoy eating. This will take place during our main holiday programs

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Improve bad habits & unhealthy lifestyle of children suffering obesity & weight problems in the area

» We will have 20 healthy cooking classes for 450 disadvantaged children over the year.
» We will have 20 keep-fit classes for 450 disadvantaged children over the year.
» We will have 10 swimming sessions for 450 children over the year.
» We will provide sports and cycling opportunities for 450 children over the year.

    What success will look like

Success will be when children will bring healthy foods for snack during play-scheme and encourage their families to eat healthy meals and snacks.

  • Impact

There will be less problems of children feeling deprived and isolated from their friends as their confidence will be built up again.

These children will have a healthier heart leading to less risk of likely illnesses caused by being overweight.

There is a risk that children may still feel inconfident in controlling their food demands, therefore we are working with an NHS nutrionist to be there for the children, and that they can phone her for advice on healthy living.

We will keep records over the year of children's improvements on eating habits, their enjoyment of eating healthy meals, improvement of exercise, sports and swimming and reduction in weight.
