Providing Life-Saving ARVs in India
In the remote Indian border states of Manipur and elsewhere, HIV/AIDS clinics are scarce. This project will provide ARV therapy to many HIV+ migrants in Manipur State and Andhra Pradesh state who are dying because they are ineligible for access medical care in India.
January 2010 - January 2016
Charity information: Aids Ark
This initiative will reduce the suffering of these HIV+ migrants living in Moreh and Andra Pradesh in most cases will prevent their early deaths.
A small medical clinic was established at Moreh, Manipur State, India in 2009 and we are also working with the FXB clinic in Vizak in Andra Pradesh. This provides high quality low cost HIV/AIDS medical care (including the supply of ARVs to 25 individuals) and related services specifically for these HIV+ migrants.
To save lives by funding the treatment and care of named individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
Activities» To fund the supply of life saving ARVs for those who are unable to access these proven life-saving medications.
» To provide additional support - such as doctors, nurses, tests and counselling - to ensure ARV treatment is effective.
» To supply this treatment and care until the big international anti-HIV programmes scale up and our patients can then be passed onto them.
What success will look like
Success will be measured by the number of people we can keep alive on ARVs.
Almost all people on ARVs return to health and have a life-expectancy of many years. In addition, they are able to work and support their families who might otherwise face destitution. We also follow-up on the treatment of all our members.
The main risk is that the Indian government or the large international anti-HIV programmes do not take over the medical care of the patients within our programme over the next few years. In that case, unless the patients can start funding the ARV medications themselves, we will have many people whose lives depend upon us continuing to supply them ARVs indefinitely. Aidsark keeps aside funds in reserve for this eventuality.
Donors receive reports several times a year detailing the progress of our programmes.

Manipur and Andra Pradesh are some of the poorest and most remote regions of India.
People who do not qualify or are unable to receive ARVs from the Indian government - these are mainly migrants. Many of these people have HIV, have no access to ARV medications, and will die unless we provide them with medications.
Aidsark has been supplying ARVs and associated treatments since 2002 to people who would otherwise not receive treatment (in countries including Lesotho, South Africa, Uganda, India and Burma). We have a simple, secure, effective and tested system in place. 100% of money raised will be used to fund the treatment of HIV - the cost of all overheads are fully covered by the 2 Founder Trustees (Jeremy Norman & Derek Frost).
