St Johns Hospice - Caring for our local community
St. John's Hospice Lancaster cares for those with cancer and other life limiting conditions in the community of North Lancashire, South Lakes & parts of North Yorkshire. Over the years demand for our services has grown and we urgently require more nurses to provide care 24hrs a day, 365 days a year.
January 2013 - January 2014
St Johns Hospice Lancaster
As we support more patients with Life limiting conditions in our community the need for complex care and support from our nurses is required on the ward. With an increase in respite cases, admissions for medical assessment and individuals with end of life care needs, we need to provide more nurses for our In Patient Unit.
We are looking to recruit 1 Senior Staff Nurse which would allow us to deal effectively with more patients and their needs as individuals.
To support more patients in the North Lancs, South Lakes and North Yorkshire community.
Activities» Admit more patients on to the ward and provide them with the support they require.
» Liaise with local GPS and hospitals for referrals.
Success will be an increase in patients and the realisation that we are caring for as much of our local community as we possibly can.
As more people are diagnosed with Life Limiting conditions the project will allow us to plan strategically for the future on the development and need for our In Patient services.
We monitor patient trends each year so can we plan where possible to ensure the services we require meet the needs of the local community.
We will communicate in our newsletter which is distributed to every household and business in our area. Our online website will also be updated with developments from the Big Give scheme.

St. John's Hospice is based in Lancaster providing support to the local community in the South Lakes, North Lancashire and North Yorkshire. Due to the size of our geographical area we also support patients with our Hospice at Home Service for those that have chosen to receive end of life care in their own home.
Patients in the community we support will benefit from additional nurses allowing us to care for those who need it most.
We are the only Hospice in our catchment area. If St. John's Hospice didn't exist we would not be able to serve the local community and patients would have to travel outside of the area which would be increasingly difficult for the patient and their families.
