New premises and community centre

Bikur Cholim has "outgrown" its current premises and we have now identified new premises which will not only increase the capacity of the organisation but will increase the services we are able to provide. This will include a mental health clinic and St Joseph Hospice outreach clinic.

  • Need


    Bikur Cholim current premises are severely overcrowded . Our mental health service is located at several sattelite locations and we are unable to reach out to all the people who require our support and services. There is also a need for peer support groups and training sessions which we are unable to meet due to space constraints. We also find it challenging to arrange private meetings as our conference room is so heavily used.


    The location will tackle this by:
    - increasing the work space and improving confidentiality for office staff and support workers
    - providing venue for peer support groups
    - providing suitable mental health treatment rooms
    -providing suitable premises for St Joseph Hospice Outreach Clinic
    - increasing training opportunities for staff and carers
    - internet cafe for older people and those who require support in accessing advice and information

    The aim is to improve the current provision of services and increasing capacity to meet demand


    » Personal care- Our home care assistants provide personal care during day and night with dignity and respect.
    » Carers Support - One to one support for unpaid carers, benefits advice and peer support groups
    » Meals Service at Home -Warm nutritious meals delivered daily to patients and their families
    » Peace of Mind -Specialist mental health service including assessments, counselling, bereavement support and advocacy

    What success will look like

    Success will be measured by the the increase in service users and the number of sessions we are able to provide

  • Impact


    The long term changes will include the increase in take up and access to services for those challenged by illness, disability and old age and for their carers and families


    there is a risk that we will not be able to maintain the levels of funding required to support our project. We have developed a fundraising strategy and are working closely with existing and potential funders to manage this risk.


    Funders of this project will receive montly email reports on the project detailing progress and any changes made to the project plan

  • Background


    The office is centrally located at the former Skinners School which is on the main Stamford hill high street and is on central bus routes and easy to find.
    The are is identified as an area of deprivation and poverty and the new location will provide local residents with opportunities to access advice, information. support and services

    We are the largest provider of support and services to the Jewish community in North London and have been providing services to this community for over thirty years. We work in partnership with local organisations both mainstream and from the community and are commissioned by local councils to provide services on their behalf
