Christmas at St Oswald's Hospice

We want to raise £24,000 to help us fund the cost of Christmas on the inpatient unit at St Oswald's Hospice. This funding will meet our clinical costs, ensuring that patients can enjoy the best possible quality of life, with the people they love, in the last 2 weeks of 2011.

  • Need

Every survey of patient care shows that the majority of patients would prefer to be in their own home if at all possible. This is doubly true at Christmas, traditionally a time for family and friends to gather together. So only those patients with the most urgent need for care stay on St Oswald's Inpatient Unit over the festive season. We work hard to make this a happy time for patients and the people they love and need funding to help meet the cost of our high quality services.

With your help we will make the whole Christmas season a happy time for patients and families by concentrating on the little details. For example, on Christmas Day our chefs kick things off with bacon butties and bucks fizz, followed by mince pies round the log fire. Later we serve Christmas lunch with all the trimmings for patients and their families. All of the bedrooms and bays are decked out and gifts from the Hospice are left out on Christmas morning for every patient.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To provide high quality care and support for inpatients at St Oswald's Hospice this Christmas.

» We will provide superb holistic care to ensure that each patient and family member enjoys the best possible Christmas.

    What success will look like

Success will be each patient and family enjoying the best possible Christmas together, with appropriate physical, emotional and spiritual support.

  • Impact

We will provide each family with happy memories of Christmas 2011, which sadly, for many, will be their last Christmas together.

As you wold expect of an organisation providing high quality medical and social care St Oswald's has fully assessed all the risks associated with caring for patients with a high level of need.

We will report through our website and regular newsletters.

St Oswald's Hospice at Christmas

It's hard being away from home over Christmas and for some patients, knowing that this could be their last Christmas makes it even harder.
