We would like to roll out more STEM teaching in primary schools through robotics. We have an expert who just needs the equipment to deliver in schools across East Berkshire.

    Need

    Funding to deliver the required STEM initiative which has already got a demand. We need to purchase at least 10 kits to deliver to a class at a time in primary schools

    Solution

    With 10 kits we can deliver this project annually with no end date so the potential reach is enormous. Young people in Primary school could receive this tuition on an ongoing basis across East Berkshire

    Aim 1

    To deliver more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) into Primary schools

    Activities

    » An average year group in East Berkshire would be over 100 children. We could run a session morning and afternoon for an unlimited period.

    Success will be the ability to deliver at least 10 programmes per year therefore over 1000 children annually


    Aim 2

    To extend the reach of STEM by ensuring children are engaged at a young age, and onto Secondary

    Activities

    » Enthusiastic, motivated teaching techniques to engage these young people therefore avoiding them dropping these subjects at Secondary level

    Success will be Secondary school children requesting Work Experience in companies with STEM focus


  • Impact

    Impact

    Ease of recruitment for our local companies focused on STEM currently struggling to find the talent as students have opted for softer subjects. Slough Borough, Bracknell Forest and Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead will attract more STEM companies as the workforce will be equipped with the skills from education required.

    Risk

    Currently we have one key person at our charity who can deliver these STEM subjects for the schools, she will be able to train the teachers with the equipment and also teach colleagues the techniques.

    Reporting

    We would illustrate the support in our Newsletter INSIGHT and Primary Newsletter. Each academic year we could provide statistics as to the number of young students and teachers who have utilised the equipment

    Location

    East Berkshire covering three borough councils, Bracknell Forest, Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (including Ascot, Sunningdale and rural outreach), Slough Borough

    Beneficiaries

    Primary School children across three borough councils in the UK. Many of our school children are under the category for free school meals, come from areas where English is a second or additional language, disengaged family units with low aspirations.

    We already have a person who can deliver this project, she has experience in STEM subjects with Secondary & Primary school project delivery. We have the contacts in all schools across the catchment. Certified lego educator plus we have the Lego Mindstrom software and licences.
