Work Experience Log Books - (14-16yr olds)

For the first time we wish to add a corporate logo to 5000 logbooks taken out by the students of East Berkshire into over 2000 businesses. Students come from 35 local schools. The logbook records the work experience week and is reviewed by schools and business.

September 2014 - July 2015

  • Need

Lack of funding for printing and designing the logbooks plus review of 5000 returned employer references

Through distribution of logbooks during the Academic year 2014-2015 with a corporate sponsor we will be able to ensure each child has a logbook of a high quality, employers are able to write references that can be followed up on and schools will benefit from seeing students review of their time out of school each year.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Print and distribute 5000 copies of the logbook for 14-19yr olds

» Acquire the statistics for expected students taking a week out in the workplace from every school involved in East Berkshire. Print and hand deliver

    What success will look like

Success will be achieved by students gaining work placements and attending local businesses on work experience with their logbooks.

    Aim 2

    Business engagement through sponsorship

» By gaining business support it will illustrate to other corporates both small and large that work experience is the way to support the next generation

    What success will look like

Success will be illustrated when the 14-19 yr olds each have a log book with the logo of a business on the front. Over 2000 businesses will see the support given by a business

  • Impact

Our aspiration is that if every 14-19yr old has a week in industry they learn the basics of the workplace, dealing with customers, working with colleagues, time keeping, taking on tasks, meeting deadlines, skills that can not be gained in the classroom. Young people in East Berkshire will have better opportunity to acquire jobs due to having a first job on their first CV from their work experience.

The key risk factor is the personality of the student, their willingness to work, their appreciation of the time dedicated by a business and the commitment made by business. We host a half day Skills for Life session in each school prior to them going into the workplace.

We will be able to give statistics of the amount of students who have gone out into the workplace at the end of the academic year and also how many businesses have been visited
