British History Project
We will teach young adults from different ethnicities about the rich history and heritage of Britain, creating a stronger sense of community and multi-cultural feelings and a greater understanding of inter-generational issues.
March 2014 - March 2015
With knowledge of our country's history on the decline and many young adults having little or no knowledge of the history of our country, many teens and young adults don't have any feeling of pride and patriotism in our country. This is especially true in an area like Hackney where there are many different communities and different ethnic groups. Our course will provide knowledge in the history of our country which will provide the participants with feelings of pride and a sense of belonging.
By running a series of history lectures combined with trips to famous historical landmarks, the students will re-live the events which happened and will enjoy learning about historical events from previous generations. We will also run history workshops led by a workshop specialist who will make history come alive thus captivating the imagination of the students. This will ensure that the student leave the course with a strong knowledge of British history.
Run a History course which will teach the students all about the rich history of Britain.
Activities» We will run a series of lessons combined with trips to important historical places and run interactive workshops led by a history specialist.
Success will be when the participants take the end of course exam testing all the material which was covered during the course and the average score will be 85% or more.
Our project will reverse the lack of knowledge of local and national history. It will also lead to more students taking further history courses with the intention of taking a GCSE or A Level on history. We will monitor this by working closely with the local schools and colleges to monitor this. It will also teach the young adults to to respect other cultures and traditions.
There is a risk that students won't be motivated in joining the course. We have kept this risk to a minimum by ensuring that the programme is interesting and is combined with educational trips rather then just sitting in a classroom every lesson. Another risk is the possibility of something going wrong during the trips and to minimise that, we will have a someone who is fully qualified in first aid on all the trips. We will also have a comprehensive insurance which will cover anything unexpected
We will use social media such as Facebook to provide regular updates of the development of the activities including photographs and video clips. We will produce an End of Project report which will be distributed to donors and stakeholders.

The course will be held in Hackney which is the poorest Borough in London and among the 10 poorest in England . With Hackney being one of the most diverse areas in the country with many different communities and ethnicity's living in Hackney. Due to this, it is important that we teach the young adults, the History of Britain.
30 young adults p.a will learn the History of our country. Since Hackney is such a multi-cultural place, we expect all different ethnicity's to join our history classes.
We have successfully arranged courses for young people since 2007. Most of our graduates have gone on to find full time employment utilising the skills they learnt during our courses.
Since we are based in the middle of Hackney we feel that we best understand the need to teach History classes to the residents of Hackney.
