Tackling homophobia in Cambridgeshire schools
We aim to tackle homophobia and homophobic bullying in primary and secondary schools to create a more inclusive and integrative environment for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) pupils and other pupils subject to homophobic bullying.

Young lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) and transgendered pupils still face much discrimination within the school environment. Local research tells us that 4.2% of year 10 pupils identify as being LGB These Year 10 LGB pupils are consistently more likely than straight pupils to be the victims of a wide range of verbal and physical aggressions.
36% of LGB pupils report to having been bullied at or near school (compared to 15% of straight pupils)
Through offering a range of services into schools we help to raise awareness of homophobia and the impact discrimination has on LGBT young people. We work with the pupils, teachers and the whole school community to support them in making the school inclusive for all LGBT young people and a place free of homophobia.

We hope to make Cambridgeshire schools a more inclusive, tolerant place for LGBT young people to be. Our aim is for these young people to then be able to live without discrimination and be able to have equal opportunities. We will continue to work closely with local schools to monitor the success of our project.
As schools change status to academies there is increased competition for services . We have had to ensure our services meet the needs of the schools and we keep up to date with policy change such as the new Equality Act 2010. We have had to adapt our services to try to ensure they can be sustainable without the reliance of grant funds as there is less available grant funding during these times. To do this we are diversifying our funding streams.
We will send out a quarterly newsletter to our donors informing them of our successes. We will also have a dedicated web page for our schools work and will use social media such as Face book and Twitter for those who wish to follow us.

We will be working in schools within Cambridgeshire.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered children and young people will benefit mainly from this project. Wider than this the whole community would benefit as we support teachers and youth workers to be more aware of the needs of LGBT young people
We have been working supporting LGBT young people in Cambridgeshire since 1993 and within local schools since 2004. Over the past 3 years we have worked with over 5000 pupils delivering a peer education project. We have the experience and understanding of working in this area and are able to bring expertise to the project,
