  • Need


    Britain needs more highly qualified young people in science and maths to compete successfully in the global economy. Gifted children should be among the leading scientists, technologists, business people and engineers of the future. Research shows that many are at risk of failing to fulfill their potential through lack of early encouragement or sufficient challenge to motivate them. Precious talent is being wasted, to the detriment of young lives and British business alike.


    Tomorrow's Achievers masterclasses are widely acclaimed as outstanding. Children benefit intellectually from exposure to new and stimulating projects that inspire their zest for learning, as they discover the excitement and purpose of wanting to achieve. Importantly, they make friends with other exceptionally able children who share their interests. The project will help more rising high fliers become tomorrow's success stories and contribute to Britain's national prosperity.

    Aim 1

    To inspire more young people with the ambition to excel in maths and science.


    » To develop our maths and science masterclasses into new areas of the country to enthuse more young people to strive to achieve their potential.
    » To engage the children in imaginative projects, that stretch their abilities and fire their enthusiasm for learning.
    » To run highly interactive courses that involve youngsters with other gifted children and encourage the concept that it is cool to be clever.

    By providing 20 extra science and maths masterclasses.

    Aim 2

    To raise youngsters' aspirations to gain qualifications to a top university and high level career.


    » To interact with universities, science centres and businesses to help children discover the many prestigious maths and science related careers.

    By publishing feedback from children, parents and schools about courses and outcomes. Previous feedback has fully justified our mission and aims.

    Aim 3

    AIM: To enable 250 more children from low income families to attend the courses


    » Outreach to gifted children from low income families and provide grants to enable them to attend the courses free of charge.

    By enrolling 250 new children from low income families on our new and existing courses.

    Aim 4

    To involve more schools in promoting study of maths and science to an advanced level.


    » Target schools, particularly in disadvantaged areas, inviting them to nominate suitably able children from poorer families to participate.
    » Prominently display details of masterclasses and the provision of grants on our website and on flyers which will be widely circulated in local areas.

    Schools with insufficient budget to provide their own enrichment courses can enrol students on the masterclasses at no necessary cost or trouble to themselves.

  • Impact


    Maths and science tend to be among children's least favourite subjects. Schools don't always encourage their study at A level. Clever children often seek to hide their ability for fear of being seen as swots.

    The masterclasses will help to change these negative attitudes through provision of activities that children enjoy. Gifted children blossom when mixing with others like themselves. Cleverness is seen as a cause for pride and entry into many exciting and prestigious careers.


    The two major risks are that insufficient children apply for a particular course to enable it to be viable and that a masterclass leader lets us down at the last minute, which in both cases would cause the course's cancellation.

    We have dealt with these risks as far as possible by improving our website, greatly increasing the number of schools on our database and trying, wherever practicable, to have a reserve masterclass leader in case of emergency.


    We shall send personalised letters of thanks, communicate with donors on our website and on published literature, which we distribute.

    Major donors will be sent a full report about the project to which they have donated.

  • Background


    We currently run masterclasses in London, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Kent, Suffolk, Essex and Somerset; during the 2011-12 academic year, we shall be launching a new programme of masterclasses in Walsall, Telford and Sandwell.

    All areas have very mixed populations, each with many socially disadvantaged districts.

    The government Gifted & Talented budget has been axed and the current economic climate has resulted in more families needing grants to enable their child to attend.


    Gifted children from whatever background are welcomed and stand to benefit. Those from disadvantaged areas, where schools have fewer facilities, will particularly gain, as will those from low income families who receive grants to attend the courses free of charge.

    Both the country and our national economy should benefit, as more highly able children are motivated to succeed and acquire the qualifications that business and the professions need to compete successfully.

    We have been running specialist masterclasses for gifted children in various parts of the country for 11 years. We have an excellent team of masterclass leaders with long experience of teaching exceptionally able children. We have received hundreds of testimonials, praising the excellence of the courses, as well as feedback from students telling us how the masterclasses changed their lives, setting them on course to train for a rewarding career.
