Replacement Mattress Project 2011
Many of our mattresses are in excess of 10 years old and require replacing. Having trialled a number of products the best in terms of patient comfort costs £4,000. This is a specialist mattress proven to be beneficial in terms of pain relief. Ideally we would require 16 of these mattresses.
The project will last as long as it takes to replace all 16 mattresses.
Charity information: Springhill Hospice
Many of our mattresses are in excess of 10 years old and current technology means that mattresses are far superior today in treating pain relief than they were when we purchased the ones we currently use.
In our trials the chosen mattress - the Osaka Cirrus - stood out above all others. The latest technology provides a very high pressure relief and results in improvements to pain management.
Nursing staff and patients have evaluated the mattress extreme;y well, commenting on issues ranging from the silence of the pump to improved comfort, particularly for patients who are suffering from increased pain due to their condition.
To improve the quality of life for all our In-patient unit patients
Activities» We aim to raise enough funds to replace the mattresses we are currently using
What success will look like
Success will be supplying each bed with a new mattress
The long term change this project will bring by bringing superior care for persons who need all the comfort they can get.
We can see no risks to this project.
We will be able to report to donors on a personal basis by inviting them to see the mattresses and to speak with staff and patients about the benefits of having them.

The Hospice is based in Rochdale. Our catchment area is the whole of the Rochdale Metropolitan Borough along with parts of Oldham, Rossendale and North Manchester.
We have been established as an independent hospice for 21 years and in that time have treated thousands of people living with life-limiting illnesses.
With around 250,000 population are area is not particularly wealthy and the recession has hit the three townships in our locale - Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton - particularly hard, with many of the shops and smaller businesses folding.
We are the only hospice in the Rochdale Metropolitan Borough which makes the services we offer - free of charge - to the community absolutely exclusive.
