  • Need

The Catholic Church and the Papal visit raised the issue that sexual abuse has occured within a religious settings. Given the secret nature of religious sexual abuse it is not yet known how many children and adults have been affected. Many survivors are still too scared to disclose what has happened to them. In addition, churches and faith leaders are reluctant to reveal the number of allegations.

Families are often overwhelmed with grief, anger and guilt for having failed to protect the child and this can lead to denial to protect themselves from feeling guilt. The shame of religious sexual abuse forces some families to leave their communities, or they may be ostracised which increases the sense of alienation and isolation as they are excluded away from their community. This book helps address this.
