PTSD Resolution

  • Need

Military trauma causes flashbacks, nightmares, anger and depression - often leading to violence, alcohol and substance abuse, job loss, family breakdown and even suicide.
Veterans and TA may struggle to reintegrate into a normal work & family life because of military post traumatic stress suffered as a result of service in the armed forces.
Over 300 Falklands veterans have committed suicide; more than were killed in the fighting in 1982.

PTSD Resolution will fund therapy for UK armed forces’ veterans and reservists. Each therapy costs £550, with near 80% success.
Treatment is on an outpatient basis, to support family and work routines. It is confidential, on a one-to-one basis, with no waiting lists.
A referral is not needed. Therapy is brief and effective – generally within three to five one-hour sessions treatment is ended by mutual agreement. It is unusual for further support to be needed subsequently

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Treat UK Forces' Veterans & Reservists & their families to resolve military trauma

» Run our free helpline, identify need and brief one of our local therapists to deliver treatment - manage treatment program, followup results
» Contact the community of UK Veterans and families so that they are aware of the treatment network and help available

A standard measurement protocol is used to measure the results of treatment: information is published and fully available to the public and peers

  • Impact

The success rate is 8 out of 10 for those who complete the PTSD Resolution programme - where the symptoms are reduced to a sub-clinical level and both counsellor and counselled believe that no further treatment is required. This enables the veteran to go on to receive other support and help as required, and to re-engage in normal work and family life.

All counselling is carefully monitored and the results recorded confidentially. The programme is delivered through a network of experienced therapists, trained in HGT (Human Givens Therapy ). This is a well-established therapy for the effective treatment of mental distress in the general population.
The goal of therapy is to break the link between the memory of the original event and the emotional response.

We make the statistical results of counselling for veterans publicly available, so that donors can see the contribution that PTSD makes to relieving the problems we address
