The Big Chest Invest

The CVS Community Chest evolved as a result of the National Grassroots project. We now want to continue growing the Community Chest to support small voluntary groups in Telford & Wrekin. We are asking people to "invest" in the Community Chest which will provide a "local small grant pot"

  • Need

Research and local knowledge has shown that many small voluntary groups appreciate the existance of "local grant pots" that they can apply to in times of need. The CVS Community Chest can help to meet this need by providing an ongoing source of local funding. In many cases local voluntary groups are supported by the community they serve. However, it is not always possible for the smaller community groups to plan for the unexpected or to expand.

The CVS Community Chest will meet a need in the community by providing a local, accessable funding source.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To support the sustainability of small voluntary groups within Telford & Wrekin.

» The CVS will manage an ongoing fundraising appeal to support the voluntary sector within Telford & Wrekin and provide any support needed.

Success will be shown on our website through case studies and photographs demonstrating how the voluntary sector groups have benefitted from the Community Chest.

  • Impact

The long term changes of the project will be the ability of the voluntary sector in Telford to grow and develop to address changing needs of the communities they serve. It will be possible to demonstrate the growth and development of the voluntary groups through our voluntary sector data tracking system.

The main risk to the project is insufficient funds to give out grants. This risk is being dealt with by raising the profile of the CVS, as an infrastructure organisation and the important role it plays supporting the voluntary and community sector within Telford and Wrekin.
Various marketing media have been developed to promote the role of the CVS and the Community Chest. In particular the aspect of Social Media Networks to support fundraising.

Where appropriate donors will receive individual reports directly. Either via email or post. Additionaly bi-monthly reports will appear in the CVS newsletter and on the website

  • Background

The area of Telford & Wrekin is made up of the new town of Telford, developed approximately 50 years ago, and the more rural surrouding area of the Wrekin. The new town of Telford once made up of small villages, is now a series of very large housing complexes that still carry the names of many of those villages. The area is populated by the various influx of people that a new town attracts. The voluntary sector has developed to support the diverse needs of these very diverse communities.

The diverse voluntary groups that support the very diverse communities will be the beneficiaries of the CVS Community Chest.
The Community Chest fund is intended to support local voluntary groups, who want to improve their service and build their capacity.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Telford and Wrekin CVS has a long history of managing grant funds for both statutory and non statutory organisations. The experience gained from this work enabled CVS to become a Local Funder for the country wide Grassroots Grant Project. This required a commitment to raise an endowment to invest in the future of the voluntary sector. The Big Chest Invest is a continuation of the CVS commitment to ensure the future of the local voluntary sector.
