  • Need


    It has been proven that participating in cultural activity enriches lives and for most people attending a panto is their first cultural experience. The long-standing Corporate sponsor of our Christmas Panto is unable to continue to support us and, as a result, the future of this much loved annual family event is now at risk. In order to maintain our heavily subsidised ticket prices and our free schools education pack and workshop programme – we need to raise £20’000 a year.


    Attending a panto is most people’s first experience of theatre and a memory that stays in the mind long after the event. At the Tron we are committed to keeping prices as low as possible to make sure that the Christmas production is as accessible to all, regardless of age, background or ability, whilst still maintaining the artistic quality that the Tron is renowned for. In addition our free workshop programme and education pack encourages involvement from a diverse range of groups.

    To create a high quality entertaining Christmas production for all the family in December 2012.


    » Performances taking place twice a day throughout December.

    What success will look like

    Success will be demonstrated in both the critical reviews of the production and through audience feedback collected

    Aim 2

    To encourage the behaviour of theatre going by offering tickets at heavily subsidised prices.


    » Maximum ticket price will be maintained at £17 with children’s tickets priced from £7.

    What success will look like

    Success will be demonstrated by achieving a minimum of 90% capacity with an increase of 10% in first time attenders and a wider geographic spread in terms of audience profile.

    Aim 3

    To attract new group audiences and enhance existing relationships with schools and community groups


    » Add value to the audience experience by offering a series of complimentary pre-panto workshops to schools and community groups throughout the region.
    » To produce and distribute a complimentary education pack that will enhance and encourage further engagement with the production.

    What success will look like

    Success will be demonstrated by attracting a minimum of five new groups to the panto and increasing repeat group booking by 20%

  • Impact


    The project will help to continue the Tron's commitment to producing high quality Christmas shows at affordable prices for the people of Glasgow and serve as a stepping stone for audiences ongoing participation in cultural activities. We will demonstrate the success of the project by monitoring first time attenders visits to the venue during the following 12mths and success will be defined as 40% of new attenders going to one or more additional productions throughout the year.


    There is always a risk for arts activities in terms of attendance but the Tron panto is a well established event with a loyal following and an extensive city-wide marketing campaign will support the project.

    The risk of not raising the matched funding to support the 2012 panto would however effect the aspects of the project, such as the subsidised ticket price, the workshop programme and the education pack which will benefit those people who need it the most.


    Donors will receive regular progress updates prior to the production and will be invited to attend the show. A full evaluation of our accompanying Education programme along with a general post-project report including attendance figures and press coverage will also be sent to donors on completion..

  • Background


    The site of the present day Tron Theatre has played a central role in the life of Glasgow City for nearly five centuries. Located in the heart of the Merchant City, the Tron has contributed significantly to the invigoration of this area and since a major refurbishment in 1999 has established itself as one of Scotland’s most well loved cultural venues.


    Potentially over 12’000 people will benefit directly from attending the Tron panto in 2012. In addition a minimum of 8 schools and community groups will benefit from our complimentary workshop programme involving up to 280 children. Every primary school and secondary school in the greater Glasgow area will also receive a complimentary education pack based on the main panto themes.
