Community Education at Camden Arts Centre
Art education is a driving force of our programme. The Centre provides a welcoming environment where audiences can enjoy and experience art through artist led out of school workshops and courses, family days, activity guides and through ongoing projects with schools and community groups.

“The arts have the potential to transform lives and communities and to promote social inclusion neighbourhood renewal and cultural citizenship”
Sir Christopher Frayling
Camden Arts Centre plays a vital role as the visual arts hub for North London. Our education programme aims to make the arts and culture more accessible to a range of local residents.
This year our community work will focus on disadvantaged and harder to reach communities who do not currently participate in the arts.
By supporting increased participation in the arts we aim to enrich lives, providing access to artists and their ideas, promoting critical thinking about the world in which we live, supporting continuing and lifelong education, encouraging families to work together and civic participation throughout Camden.
We will work collaboratively with a range of local partners to create equality of opportunity and to promote social cohesion.
Working with diverse audiences we will increase participation in the visual arts.
Activities» We will continue our collaborative work with a range of grassroots organisations, to create equality of opportunity within the visual arts.
Success will be...more people experience and are inspired by the arts.
During 2012, we aim for at least 70,000 people to take part in our activities on site.
By supporting increased participation in the arts we aim to enrich lives, providing access to artists and their ideas, promoting critical thinking about the world in which we live.
Through our work to reach a range of audiences, including marginalised and harder to reach communities, and by providing clear paths for all to access our programme of activities and events, we aim to encourage civic participation and social cohesion throughout North London.
Camden Arts Centre has a strong track record working with diverse commmunities in Camden. Over the past 20 years we have collected feedback from our audiences and evaluated our community projects. This evaluation informs our strategies.
We have worked with Audiences London to carry out research in order to understand and address issues and barriers to attendance by families. Our Education programmes aim to break down these barriers and make Camden Arts Centre fully accessible to all.
Donors will receive regular written updates on our all our activities, as well as receiving invites to preview events, talks and tours, family days, workshops and screenings.

Camden Arts Centre has established a far-reaching reputation as a place where the artist takes centre stage and where making art is as important as displaying it. With its distinctive combination of galleries, studios and workshop spaces and its historic connotations, the Centre is infused with an atmosphere of creativity, learning and discovery.
